Urge "Cards Against Humanity" to Stop Producing Cards with Holocaust References
The Issue
It's a Sunday night, I'm at a party with my friends, and we all decide to sit down for a couple rounds of Cards Against Humanity. I'm excited to play my first game ever, until the first round when I receive the card, "Poorly-timed Holocaust Jokes". I feel disappointed, but my friends laugh at the card's hilarity, and point at me since I'm the Jew there. I was expecting my friends to have more tolerance towards my culture and its history, and was depressed to see them all laughing instead. I have to leave the party early as I can no longer maintain a happy composure and support a game that is ok with promoting disrespectful values at the Holocaust, and the Jewish culture.
I was born and raised Jewish in America, but my grandparents were the first generation to immigrate here. They came to America after World War II, but they were among the few relatives who actually made it. Dozens of my blood-relatives were killed in the Holocaust, several at the concentration camps, such as Auschwitz and Stutthof. This horrific event is treated with gravity in every Jewish family, specifically in my family for my great-aunts and uncles that I lost.
The Holocaust is one of the largest genocides in history, during which 11 million Jews, Jehovah's Witnesses, Roman Catholics, Gypsies, Homosexuals, and the disabled were systematically murdered. Of these 11 million victims, over 6 million were Jewish, who were prosecuted solely for this fact. All students are now taught at least the basic facts of the Holocaust, as a way to encourage religious and ethnic toleration. Unfortunately, even with the education of several Holocaust organizations, Anti-Semitism, the prejudice of Jews, is still a prominent issue worldwide. As a young Jewish girl who has been the subject of innumerable Holocaust jokes throughout my lifetime, I urge you to please help further educate the world on the awful events of Holocaust, to promote religious toleration, and stop the defamation of Jews and other ethnic groups.
As a party game targeted at teenagers, Cards Against Humanity, is directly influencing the younger populations of America, Canada, Australia, and Great Britain and promoting intolerant values. With several cards, such as "MechaHitler", "Auschwitz", "The Jews", "Poorly-timed Holocaust Jokes", and "Ethnic Cleansing", Cards Against Humanity has made Anti-Semitism and the Holocaust a joke and has downplayed these heinous acts. As anti-semitism is still a huge problem today, and the actions of the Holocaust should be remembered with solemnity, Cards Against Humanity should stop producing cards with references to the Holocaust and Anti-Semitic subjects.
Please support my family, the families everywhere who were affected by the Holocaust, and most importantly, the victims killed in the Holocaust who can no longer advocate for themselves, and ask Cards of Humanity LLC to stop producing any cards that reference the Holocaust and Anti-Semitic subjects.
