At 5,000 signatures, this petition is more likely to get picked up by local news!

Cardiff Council are planning to sell the 0.4 acre woodland for just £32k at the end of Flaxland Avenue in Cardiff for development. Cardiff Council don't value the woods, but we do!

The woodland is a diverse mix of deciduous and coniferous trees that provide vital benefits to local families and wildlife.

Birds and animals live, feed, nest and shelter in Flaxland Woods. We have a thriving bird population in the area with regular sightings of four species of tits (blue, great, long-tailed and coal), robins, sparrows, magpies, blackbirds, wood pigeons and even great spotted wood peckers and sparrowhawks! We also see squirrels and bats.

The woodland also provides an important visual, sound and air pollution barrier between the busy A48/Gabalfa roundabout and the community living off Whitchurch Road.

I live near the woodland with my young family, we enjoy feeding and watching the birds and mammals and watching the changing seasons of the trees. I think it's critical for our environment that the younger generation to have an interest in nature and they can help protect it for future generations!

The wellbeing and health benefits of living near trees is well documented and evidenced.

Cardiff Council have a duty to support and protect the health and well-being of its residents. Not sell off our green spaces the day before the general election in the hope it sneaks through unnoticed!

And then of course there's climate change and the fact that Cardiff Council declared a climate emergency just 8 months ago and is now is saying on the zoopla listing "We are of the opinion that the land [which is covered in trees!] may be suitable for development subject to all necessary consents and planning approval." How can Cardiff Council justify losing our important urban trees when we're in a climate emergency?

Please sign the petition to show your support and ask for Cardiff Council to stop the sale of this green space for development!

Our local community would be so grateful!
