For many years now myself and EVERY parent I have talked to has felt the long slide in the childrens area of Roath Park has been worryingly dangerous due to the access in and out on to the Promenade. If you are a parent on your own taking children to the park you have a hard decision to make - do you stand at the top of the slide and as fast as you can manage, run down to meet them at the bottom? Or do you wait at the bottom of the slide to get them, hoping they don't decide to leave the park via the access point to the prom?! But over the years it hasn't just become about our children running out to look at the ducks! It's become far more sickeningly worrying....what if someone grabs my child whilst I'm at the bottom and makes a run for it, to a car waiting just yards away from the road? I could never make it in time! I'd be leaving another child unattended whilst I ran for my life to retrieve my child! Recently this has been turning more and more into a possible scenario with my sister taking my son and niece to the park and being approached by 6 men and one woman - taking pictures of them; saying how pretty she is and being just far too familiar! This has been widely shared by myself on Social media and reported by Wales online. I have had countless emails expressing similar situations at this park. Now is the time to DO SOMETHING that can be rectified SO EASILY! Please Cardiff Council block off the access to the Promenade via the childrens slide. Put up high fencing around that area so that adults have peace of mind that their children can use the slide safely and that there is one way in and out of the park. PLEASE - BEFORE OUR NIGHTMARE BECOMES A REALITY.
