Restore Lodhi fort,The Heritage of Ludhiana - List it as a ‘protected monument’ under ASI
The Issue
A narrow passage in Ludhiana’s Fatehgarh Mohalla leads to a forgotten monument, buried under years of bureaucratic and administrative neglect — the Lodhi Fort or ‘Purana Qila’, as it is locally known. It is situated near Daresi and is said to be the last standing structure from the Lodhi dynasty.
Lodhi Fort (Purana Qila, Lodhi fort Ludhiana) is an ancient monument at Ludhiana, Punjab, India. It is a more than 500 years old fort constructed on the Sutlej banks by Muslim ruler Sikandar Lodi. The fort also has a tunnel to the neighboring town of Phillaur. Mostly the structure is turned into ruins, lying in shambles for decades, and has become a safe haven for anti-social elements.
For the city, now a bustling industrial hub, Lodhi Fort is the only structure that still stands as testimony of its roots with the Lodhi dynasty, and from where it got its first name — ‘Lodhi-ana’ or town of Lodhis. It is said that earlier, Ludhiana was just a village called ‘Mir Hota’, before Lodhis developed it into a town.
However, the fort is in a dilapidated state and a large section of the new generation is unaware of the existing qila. The authorities are mulling to develop it as a tourist spot.Despite many attempts were made to reach the concerned officials in the past, They were not available for comments on this.
So let's come together to restore the heritage of Ludhiana and not let it die with time.
