Capital Punishment for Violent Attacks on Women and Minors, including Marital Rape

Capital Punishment for Violent Attacks on Women and Minors, including Marital Rape
The Issue
To the PM of India,
A crime against a woman is not to be tolerated by any means. Its our duty to protect the modesty of a woman and respect them as much as we respect our men in the society.
Being a man, I feel ashamed that in a country where Goddesses are worshipped, in the same country, we are having one of the highest crime rates in terms of crimes against women.
What started as the personal concern of a citizen who wishes safety for every woman in this country regardless of their relation -- be it a mother, sister, friend, or girlfriend -- has developed into this plea for justice. Sexual assaults on women and minors, including those occurring within a marital relationship, have reached alarming rates. According to National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) statistics, every day in India, around 88 rape cases are reported, with many more going unreported due to social stigma and fear of retribution.
Similarly, the issue of marital rape, though equally serious and damaging, remains a mostly unrecognized problem, largely due to the stereotypes and norms associated with marriage. Tragically, marital rape is not criminalized in India, a gaping hole in our justice system that leaves countless women without recourse.
Our plea is simple yet powerful. We demand that capital punishment be considered for perpetrators of violent sexual crimes against women and minors, as well as for those guilty of marital rape, which deserves recognition as a punishable offence. We believe that the threat of such a severe consequence will act as a deterrent, reducing the incidence of these heinous crimes. More importantly, it will serve as evidence that our society values and respects the safety and dignity of women.
This is not just about punishing the culprits, but also about creating a safer environment for every woman, girl child, and at-risk minor. It's about ensuring that every person in India can live without fear of sexual violation. It's about recognizing every person's right to personal safety.
