The City of Cape Town will not be renewing the contract for Baboon Monitors in Cape Town.  From 1 July 2023 residents are on their own.  Baboon Monitors are essential in providing some protection for baboons, residents and property.

The City's commitment is to:

• Provide baboon proof bins
• Keep trees cut on City property where it enables baboons
• Advise and specify how residents can baboon proof their homes and properties

Concerns:

• It takes 12 to 18 months to put out a tender for Baboon Monitors and this has not been done
• The baboon electric fences will not happen either as there is no tender
• There are no interim measures nor is there a phasing-in approach before or after 30 June 2023
• Without Baboon Monitors, baboons, residents and properties will be unprotected
