Cap The Cost: Implement A £20 Price Cap On All EFL Match Tickets
The Issue
Football belongs to the fans. It’s time the EFL protected them.
For generations, the EFL has been the beating heart of football in this country. It isn’t built on global audiences, billionaire owners or corporate hospitality. It’s built on proud towns, working people and communities whose football clubs are part of their identity. The EFL is different from the Premier League. Its greatest asset isn’t a television deal, it’s the supporters who pack out terraces every weekend, travel hundreds of miles on cold Tuesday nights, and pass their love of their club from one generation to the next. They are the lifeblood of the English Football League. Yet those very supporters are being priced out.
As the cost of living continues to rise, ticket prices have followed. For too many families, attending a match has gone from a weekly tradition to an occasional luxury. No supporter should have to choose between paying household bills and watching the club they have supported all their lives.
When football becomes unaffordable for ordinary people, it loses what made it special in the first place. Empty seats don’t just represent lost revenue, they represent children missing out on their first match, lifelong supporters staying at home and communities slowly becoming disconnected from the clubs that represent them.
Football clubs are more than businesses. They are community institutions, that are the fabric of the towns and cities they represent. They have a responsibility to remain accessible to the people who have sustained them for generations.
That is why we are calling on the English Football League to introduce a £20 maximum match ticket price across all three divisions, ensuring no club can price loyal supporters out of their own game. Affordable football isn’t an impossible dream. Germany has shown that sensible ticket pricing leads to fuller stadiums, stronger atmospheres and a healthier relationship between clubs and their communities.
EFL clubs are laughing at you. We can stop it
