The Issue

I am writing to express a pressing concern that affects not just my family, but also my entire community. Living in a manufactured home community has its perks, but with each passing year, I face the daunting reality of escalating lot rent. This financial burden is not just a personal hurdle; it is an issue that echoes across the nation, affecting countless families who have chosen affordable housing in manufactured home parks.

In recent years, manufactured housing lot rents have increased significantly, often with little to no justification. According to data from the Manufactured Housing Institute, lot rents increased by an average of 4% annually over the past decade. These increases far outstrip average wage growth, leaving many residents struggling to make ends meet.

Affordable housing should remain affordable for everyone. Manufactured homes are often the most economically feasible option for many, including retirees, lower-income families, and other vulnerable groups who are already living on tight budgets. Without regulations to cap these rents, many residents are at risk of losing their homes entirely.

The solution is clear and achievable: enact legislation that places a reasonable cap on yearly rent increases for manufactured housing communities. Such measures are not unprecedented. In fact, several states, including Oregon and California, have introduced rent control laws for manufactured home parks, limiting rent increases to protect residents from unpredictable hikes.

By signing this petition, you are standing with us to demand our local lawmakers prioritize affordable housing by introducing caps on lot rent increases. Together, our voices can drive the necessary legislative changes to protect the most vulnerable members of our communities and ensure that affordable housing remains truly affordable.

Please sign this petition to support capping manufactured housing lot rents and help preserve the integrity and affordability of our communities.
