The miraculous icon of Our Mother of Perpetual Help in Baclaran Parañaque City has been a source of countless miracles and deep devotion for millions of Filipino Catholics. This sacred image, possibly over a 100 year old, the shrine dated back in 1932 when the Redemptorists transferred to Baclaran area, the first Baclaran Novena happened with 70 participants on Wednesday of June 23, 1948 and now flooded by the devotees every Wednesday, is long-overdue for the honor and recognition it deserves from the Vatican.

The devotees have witnessed numerous instances where prayers to this venerated icon have resulted in miraculous healings and answered prayers. The Baclaran church was declared "National Shrine" on January 1958 and now the largest shrine in the world dedicated to Our Mother of Perpetual Help. Additionally, Pope Saint John Paul II returned to this shrine on February 17, 1981 for his first Apostolic Visit to the country. And also, OFW's bring along with them their devotion to Our Mother of Perpetual Help and practice it to the country of their work or migration and they take the initiative of starting a novena to the parishes where they live.

It is time to bestow upon Her the much deserved Canonical Coronation by a Papal decree (Also known as Pontifical Coronation, a Coronation of the venerated Marian image in the name and by authority of Pope Francis), a fitting tribute to its significance in our spiritual lives, to the Church and to the country. It is a dream of every Filipino Marian devotees to put the Pontifical crown on Her.
