Approve my fathers life saving cancer drugs currently restricted by Drug Cancer Fund

The Issue

If you had the opportunity to extend a loved one's life for that little bit longer... would you? My father has had renal cancer since 2001 -- he had his kidney removed and we didn't think we would ever have to deal with it again. He started coughing up blood in 2009 and got diagnosed with renal cancer mets to the lung a year later. In 2013 we had a breakthrough when he started taking a cancer drug called Everolimus (Afinitor) a drug widely used with breast, oesophageal, and advanced renal cancer patients. He was on that for a few years but had to stop in March this year when he underwent lifesaving surgery, it was a 10 hour operation removing a large section of my father's spinal column covered in cancer replacing it with extensive metalwork. He lost 15L of blood and at one stage the operative team had a discussion as to whether to proceed with the risk of his mortality in the balance. They agreed to continue and if they lost him, they believed at least they had tried. All medical professionals who have been involved in my fathers care go on record to say he has made an incredible recovery, he is now walking and driving again. They actively describe him as a miracle. At his latest review his surgeon said it is pressing to have his cancer treatment reinstated as soon as possible, to ensure this expensive, groundbreaking surgery wasn't in vein. However when we visited his Oncologist, we were told my father's application to restart on Everolimus (Afinitor) had been declined. Why? Because he stopped taking the drug (because of his surgery), which now means he's not eligible for the Cancer Drugs Fund. Everolimus costs £2,200 for just one single month of treatment. I am asking that you help my fight, my families fight. Every month I donate to Cancer Research, every year I run Race for Life for positive results, for change, for survival. The Cancer Drugs Fund has the key to my father's survival, and without a price tag being placed on his head, I am asking for a change not just for him but for everyone in this situation. Where there is a proven success from these drugs with patients with cancer, we should use them!! You cannot put a price on someone's life, you are denying them a basic human right, to live. These drugs should be available to ALL. Please sign because I can't do this without you.... Hannah x
