The Issue

CALLING ALL ANIMAL LOVERS AND ADVOCATES! WE CANNOT LET THIS SHOW HAPPEN!

I am calling on Cal Expo and our city officials to cancel the planned “Sactown Bully Festival” on November 22, 2025, organized by known backyard breeder Charles Simas. This issue is not just a professional obligation for me but deeply personal.

I know this heartbreak personally. I have one of Charles Simas’s so-called “productions” - my dog, Drakeo.

Drakeo is riddled with severe health issues directly caused by reckless, irresponsible breeding. Although he desperately wants to run and play with other dogs, he simply cannot because he can’t breathe properly. His tiny body...barely the size of a chihuahua, he has been forced to carry features that make every breath a struggle. It pains me to see him suffer, simply because of human greed and vanity.

Events like the Sactown Bully Festival are not legitimate dog shows, they serve as marketplaces for unethical breeders to profit by producing “designer” dogs with extreme, unnatural traits. These traits, deemed desirable by some, are nothing but fatal flaws, causing lifelong pain and suffering for the dogs. There are documented cases where these dogs suffer from debilitating conditions such as respiratory issues, joint pain, and even early death due to the monstrous breeding practices. Drakeo is just one heartbreaking example among countless others.

It's time our community takes a stand against this exploitation of animals. The Sactown Bully Festival promotes and profits from these unethical practices, inadvertently encouraging breeders to continue playing genetic lottery with these animals' lives. Sacramento should not tolerate such events that value profit over compassion and ethical treatment of animals.

I urge Cal Expo and Sacramento officials to act with conscience and stop this festival from happening. By doing so, we are not only standing up for animal welfare but also promoting ethical breeding practices and ensuring that events held within our community adhere to humane standards.

Join me in protecting innocent animals from a lifetime of misery. Sign this petition to demand the cancellation of the Sactown Bully Festival. Together, we can put an end to these cruel, exploitative practices and ensure a healthier future for dogs like Drakeo.
