Many residents not on board with busing changes [Whitehorse Star, June 15 2022]
Thank you to everyone who's signed so far. We've almost reached 250 signatures, and the petition has gained a bit of attention from the media (linked above)
The Yukon News article quotes Interim city manager Jeff O’Farrell, who states that the the new routes and schedule came out of the city’s 2018 Transit Master Plan. Part of that plan included a public survey, and the findings were published in July 2021.. It shows that the public's dissatisfaction with this plan has been apparent from the beginning.
"As shown below in Figure 7, there are varying levels of satisfaction with the proposed network. When first asked to agree or disagree with the statement that ‘the proposed changes are easy to understand’, only half of the respondents (52%) indicated that they agree or strongly agree with the statement" [Modernized Transit Route Plan, Page 8]
"A review of satisfaction levels by neighbourhood was then conducted to determine which communities are expressing the greatest dissatisfaction with the proposed recommendations (Figure 8). In seven neighbourhoods, more than 50% of respondents disagreed or strongly disagreed with the statement that overall, they were satisfied with the proposed changes. These neighbourhoods include Copper Ridge, Crestview, Hillcrest, Ingram, Lobird, Porter Creek, and Takhini South." [Modernized Transit Route Plan, Page 9]
