The upcoming Finance Bill 2024 in Kenya threatens to wreak havoc on our economy and our individual lives, primarily through regressive tax and administrative measures. Scheduled to come into force on 1st July 2024, this bill will alter different tax laws leading to immediacies we are already dreading. 

The impact? Distress on the financial capabilities of the regular citizens of Kenya, impeding their quality of life. The poor will bear the heaviest burden, demonstrating that this law is reckless and devoid of conscience.

This is not merely an economic issue. It is a moral issue. It is a human rights issue. Our government, in choosing administrative measures, should prioritize policies that promote fairness and equality. This bill, unfortunately, meets none of these criteria.
