The Issue

The proposed 12 month closure of the B5066 Sandon Road in the Hopton area of Hopton and Coton parish presents a significant challenge to our community in Hopton, the wider Hopton and Coton parish community, and also residents, road users and businesses across the surrounding area.

It is a result of the huge Bloor Homes development of 2000 homes etc.

The development will be years in the making and clearly should not trump the existing residents as it’s already is.

This decision to close the Sandon Road, is set to continue for the next year, and it threatens not only to disrupt daily life but also places an undue burden on both residents and local businesses.

Imagine the difficulties faced by families who rely on this vital thoroughfare for commuting to work, schools, and other essential services.
A closure such as this does not merely delay a journey; it reshapes entire routines and livelihoods, resulting in increased travel costs and times.

The additional round trips are an additional cost!

Local businesses, which form the backbone of our economy, are already feeling the effect of this proposed plan.
The loss of customer footfall means reduction. These potential losses are detrimental not only to the business owners but also to those who rely on these jobs to support their families.

We understand that maintenance and improvement works are essential; however, a more balanced approach should be considered.

If sufficient support and concern are demonstrated through this petition

we also hope that our MP Sir Gavin Williamson could be urged to intervene in the closure plans to avoid prolonged adversity for residents and businesses.

Sign this petition to demand an immediate re-opening … or at least a modified plan … for the community.
