Cancel MissSA to Reevaluate the Standards of Miss South Africa Pageant
The Issue
Drawing from personal experience and concerns within our community, the current standards of Miss South Africa pageant have given rise to worry. No longer does this once inspiring event motivate young girls to aspire for better; instead, its rules and regulations evoke disillusionment. This changes the once positive impact it had within our communities to a negative one, demonstrating a distressing societal shift that cannot be simply brushed aside.
One of Miss South Africa's new requirements as of 2023, have included those that identify as women but were born biological men to enter. The requirement is as follows: You do not have to have been born a female to enter the Miss South Africa pageant. However, in order to be eligible to compete internationally the contestant must be in possession of a valid South African ID document reflecting that their amended sex is female. as taken from https://www.misssa.co.za/miss-sa-2024-faqs-and-eligibility/
Soon we will have a biological male representing Miss South Africa, as seen Miss Netherlands 2023 is a trans.
It is alarming how the pageant's focus has shifted away from showcasing and celebrating the strength, resilience, and talent of young single childfree South African women. With greater emphasis on superficial standards, the pageant undermines the confidence and self-worth of our young girls.
As a symbol of leadership, Miss South Africa should instead represent the true values of our nation—strength, integrity, and diversity. We believe that a revised policy with an enhanced, clearer vision can rectify this. We invite everyone who understands the importance of inspiring and guiding young girls towards a positive, empowered future, to sign this petition in support of a comprehensive review and revision of the Miss South Africa pageant standards and regulations.
We call for the cancellation while investigations are held against the allegations they face. This will be in the best interest of the petitioners that have signed to uphold the standards that were previously requirements before 2022. Miss SA should be regulated to not allow these requirements to stand. As this is also during a women's month, its only right that Women's issues should be at the forefront of our motivations to stand for the rights of our young girls and women.
I sincerely thank you for your support your signature is one step to empowering out youth to do better.
