The Issue

The ongoing regional conflict in Jordan presents significant challenges for students preparing for their IAL exams. As the situation unfolds, students are subjected to unfair and inhumane conditions that severely impact their ability to concentrate and perform academically. Pearson Edexcel's insistence on proceeding with these exams during such tumultuous times is not only unrealistic but lacks empathy for the students' current predicaments.

The stress induced by the local conflict is undeniable. Students are constantly exposed to distressing news, resulting in heightened levels of anxiety, sleep disturbances, and difficulty in concentrating. These psychological stressors severely impair students' capacities to perform well in their exams. It is unrealistic and unfair to expect students to focus on their academic responsibilities when their safety and wellbeing are jeopardized by the ongoing crisis.

Additionally, there are practical concerns with conducting exams in such a charged environment. Gathering students at examination centres can be risky due to potential safety threats, and travel may expose them to unnecessary danger.

Instead of forcing students to face impossible situations, Pearson Edexcel should demonstrate compassion and understanding by cancelling the upcoming IAL exams, and going through with their portfolio system.

Please join us in urging Pearson Edexcel to make the humane decision to cancel the IAL exams in Jordan to protect and prioritize our students' wellbeing in these trying times. Sign this petition to stand for fairness and empathy.
