Cancel I/GCSE exams globally

The Issue

The current turmoil in the Middle East has not only affected the regions directly involved, but it has also resonated with emotional turmoil among many citizens of the world. The bonds between communities and families across borders mean that conflicts have an indelible impact on the well-being of individuals globally. As these tensions grow, the emotional strain on the families and youth in the world has reached a point where it is affecting everyday life.

Our students, who are facing the pressures of I/GCSE exams, are bearing additional stress due to the emotional burden they carry. The constant flow of distressing news, combined with the academic demands, creates an unbearable burden for many young minds. They are expected to perform at their best academically while dealing with a heavy heart. This is not only unfair, but it is also detrimental to their mental health and overall performance.

Statistics show that stress and anxiety can significantly impact academic performance and long-term mental health. According to research, elevated stress levels can lead to a myriad of health problems including depression, anxiety disorders, and compromised cognitive function. With these potential risks in mind, the continuation of scheduled I/GCSE exams could exacerbate these issues.

The education authorities in world should prioritize the well-being of their students by acknowledging these extraordinary circumstances and canceling the upcoming I/GCSE exams. This decisive action would not only alleviate the undue stress faced by students but also send a powerful message that mental health and empathy are valued and prioritized. There should be a shift towards more compassionate and understanding methods of assessing our students during these challenging times.

We urge global exam boards to take immediate action to cancel the I/GCSE exams this year, thereby providing our young citizens with the time and emotional space they need to process the current events. Let us stand together for our youth and support them in a way that promotes their well-being and future academic success. Please sign this petition to support this crucial cause.
