The Issue

Watching the news lately, I've had enough. Like many in our community, I feel the burden of high council taxes, only for our hard-earned money to potentially fund the housing of illegal migrants without any clear consent or choice from the local populace. It's not about lacking compassion; it's about ensuring transparency and fair allocation of resources by our local councils.

The recent government directives compelling local councils to house illegal migrants have raised serious concerns. According to the ONS, the UK saw a significant surge in illegal immigration numbers last year, which has placed unprecedented strain on public services across the nation, especially in areas like Essex. This surge stretches already limited resources, affecting local services such as schools, healthcare, and housing – services that residents like us rely on.

Our council taxes are climbing, yet the services provided feel compromised. In a 2022 survey by the TaxPayers’ Alliance, 68% of respondents expressed frustration with rising council taxes amid what they perceived as declining local service quality. Such findings show a growing disconnect between taxpayers and how councils manage resources.

We propose that if the government insists on using council budgets for housing illegal migrants, then the council tax should be adjusted accordingly, if not outright abolished. More transparent communication from our councils about where our money goes is also a must. We're calling for fair representation and accountability.

It’s time our voices are heard and respected. If our local councils are forced into decisions that impact residents directly, transparency and taxpayer protection should be paramount.

Join me in demanding that if local councils must house illegal migrants, the financial burden should not fall on the taxpayers without their consent. Let’s stand together for fair taxation and responsible governance. Sign this petition to make your voice heard!
