The Issue

It's been freezing recently, and it is extremely uncomfortable for both students and staff to focus on their studies in such conditions. Living in Alpharetta, GA, we're not accustomed to handling such chilly temperatures that have been hitting as low as 20 degrees Fahrenheit. This isn't just about comfort, it's about everyone's well-being and ability to safely get to and from school.

As students of Innovation Academy, we believe that continuing classes during such severe weather is detrimental to our health, learning, and overall safety. The Georgia Department of Education highlights that extreme cold adversely affects classroom performance and can increase the likelihood of health issues, particularly for young children and those with pre-existing conditions. School buses and classrooms are struggling to maintain adequate heating, which further exacerbates the problem.

We propose that the school administration consider canceling classes for the rest of the week to allow time for the weather to improve and for school facilities to ensure that heating is fully operational. This break would give the school district time to implement necessary measures to maintain a safe and warm environment for all students when classes resume.

Other schools in the region have taken similar steps to protect their students from the harsh weather conditions. We urge the Innovation Academy leadership to prioritize student safety and take immediate action.

Please join us in urging Innovation Academy to cancel classes for the rest of the week. Sign this petition to help ensure a safe learning environment for us all.
