My concern for my daughter's safety took an unexpected turn when she attended the Doujima Art Market over the weekend. To our utter shock, Amos Yee, a convicted paedophile, attempted to enter the event. Thankfully, he was rejected entry due to being deemed unsafe. However, it is deeply disturbing that he was even on bail in the first place, allowing him the freedom to pose potential danger.

Amos Yee has shown repeated disregard for the law. As a convicted paedophile, the nature of his crimes demands that he should be detained, not granted bail, while awaiting his trial for evading National Service (NS). The fact that he was able to freely attempt to attend a public event with families raises serious questions about community safety measures and judicial decisions.

Allowing a convict, especially one charged with such serious offences, to roam freely jeopardizes the safety of our community. Can we truly consider it justice when the well-being of our children is put at risk? According to studies, those who have committed such acts are at risk of reoffending, making it crucial that they are kept under strict surveillance and not allowed at large.

We urge the judicial system to reassess the conditions under which bail is granted. Revoking Amos Yee’s bail is not just a legal formality but a necessary measure to ensure community safety. Every parent deserves peace of mind, knowing their children can attend public events without fear of encountering convicted criminals.
