Cancel and remove the streamer awards
The Issue
I'm writing this petition out of frustration and confusion over the purpose of the streamer awards that glorify well-established YouTubers while ignoring the struggles of smaller content creators. As a member of the YouTube community trying to build a channel from the ground up, I've witnessed firsthand the challenges that come with being a small creator.
The current system seems skewed towards the big names, rewarding the likes of already popular YouTubers who benefit from increased visibility and accolades without acknowledging the hurdles faced by newcomers. YouTube recently implemented changes that made it even tougher for small creators by maintaining the subscriber threshold at 1,000, but doubling the required watch-time from 4,000 to 8,000 hours. This drastic change has left many of us in limbo, working tirelessly to meet steep requirements while the big names continue to bask in their fame.
Streamer awards serve to perpetuate this cycle of inequality. Instead of recognizing talent and dedication across the board, they focus on big names, thereby diminishing our opportunities and hope. It sends a message that the platform values fame over potential, stifling the dreams and ambitions of those just starting. Imagine the motivation and encouragement that could stem from a more inclusive approach where grassroots content creators are celebrated for their hard work and unique perspectives.
It's essential that YouTube and the organizers of the streamer awards reconsider their approach. By canceling or revamping these awards, they can shift the spotlight to resourceful and creative small creators who offer fresh, innovative content. Let’s push for a system that promotes fairness, where all content creators have an equal chance to be heard and rewarded for their contributions.
Join me in this movement to call for change and demand fairness. Let’s work together towards a platform that acknowledges and rewards hard work at every level. Sign this petition to make our voices heard and ensure that every creator, regardless of their subscriber count, gets the recognition they deserve.
