Wartrace, Tennessee (pop. 650) is a lovely small community in Bedford County,  Tennessee.   It’s an old railroad town with a claim -  “Cradle of the Tennessee Walking Horse”. It was home to  a famous natural gaited Tennessee Walking Horse,  ‘Strolling Jim’, who in 1939,  was the first World Grand Champion at the annual Tennessee Walking Horse Superbowl (Celebration).

On Saturday, August 6, 2016,  the 110th Annual Wartrace “Big Lick” Horse Show will take place at the city owned Jernigan Field. It will feature the “Big Lick” Animal Cruelty which has been perpetrated upon the Tennessee Walking Horse breed for the last 50 years.

Twenty (20) of the thirty one (31) horse show classes will be “Big Lick” - with 6 - 8 pound stack shoes, and Chains hitting the senstive skin above the horses' hooves.

Native Tennessean and Noted Equine Vet Dr. John Haffner said the "Big Lick" is a "business built on the suffering and pain of horses". Dr. Haffner is a member of the Horse Science Faculty at MTSU (Middle Tennessee State University) in Murfreesboro, TN.  No one has refuted Dr. Haffner's conclusion that "Big Lick" is Animal Cruelty because it is a pain induced gait.

At the 2015 Wartrace Horse Show, the USDA Vet Inspectors disqualified almost 20% of the “Big Lick” horses for alleged Horse Protection Act violations (Animal Cruelty). The Town of Wartrace allowed this Horse Show to be held at its city owned Jernigan Field.

On Saturday, June 4, 2016,  the Town of Wartrace hosted the Wartrace MusicFest at the city owned Jernigan Field.  The MusicFest featured aspiring songwriters from Nashville

America and The World needs to send the lovely Town of Wartrace, Tennessee,   a clear message:

You can't have it both ways -

  • Please “Walk Away” from the “Big Lick” Animal Cruelty at the Wartrace Horse Show,
  • Please no longer allow the Wartrace Horse Show to feature “Big Lick” classes at the city owned Jernigan Field. In 2017,
  • Please do not allow the 111th Annual Wartrace Horse Show to occur at Jernigan Field if ANY "Big Lick" classes are allowed

Please tell the Town of Wartrace, Tennessee, that you will not attend the Wartrace MusicFest if it hosts another Wartrace Horse Show which features “Big Lick” Animal Cruelty.

We will stand up and speak for “Gen’s Ice Glimmer”, #24704770, Blood Type # TWT050457,   and all the “Big Lick” Tennessee Walking Horses who have suffered for decades from the practice of “Big Lick” Animal Cruelty in a beautiful part of America.

"Strolling Jim' was not a 'Big Lick" Tennessee Walking Horse.

The Town of Wartrace, Tennessee, only needs to allow Tennessee Walking horses like 'Strolling Jim" to be exhibited at future Wartrace Horse Shows unless it wants to be the "Face" of "Big Lick" Animal Cruelty.
