Canberra kangaroo slaughter

Canberra kangaroo slaughter
Why this petition matters

Every year the ACT Government pays close to $1 million to kill thousands of kangaroos on selected nature reserves around Canberra.
they call it a humane cull but offer no other justification other than to protect ground dwelling birds and fragile grasses.
kangaroos are native, soft footed gentle marsupials who have co- existed on this land thousands of years before us. Walkers, bikers, dogs off leash, feral foxes and rabbits do far more harm than Roos and yet they are shot at night for 8 weeks every year. This had led to local extinction in some nature parks because they over calculated the roo numbers and shot too many for the population to survive
their joeys are either decapitated or swing by the back legs against the ground or bull bars until dead. If they escape when their mum is shot, they will die from exposure, starvation or predation by foxes and dogs. This year for the first time ever they have heavily targeted Red Hill- a large nature park on the centre of Canberra. Here the true horror of nightly shots ringing out, pools of blood on the grass the next morning, dead Roos and a decapitated Joey have shown us clearly the brutality of the cull.
No one is allowed to enter the reserves to save injured Roos, no one is allowed to protest, make noise or shine lights to disrupt the killing. Arrest or heavy fines apply. Government ministers refuse to communicate or answer emails.
We have to say ENOUGH. Stop the killing and conductor an independent review of this annual barbaric slaughter.
Please sign and help our gentle, unique and loved kangas to have as loud a voice as possible
