Canal and river trust want to close the moorings at broadcut Wakefield and remove all boats, they have given the boats no alternative solution but to find mooring elsewhere, sadly there is capacity for 20 boats at broadcut but only 2 moorings available in the whole of the district. The only reason given for closure is the cost of making the site safer in times of flood, we as boaters have offered to offset this cost personally but this has been rejected, some of the people have had boats at the site for 20 years and would have to give up their boats as a result of the closure. If you have ever been for a pint in the navigation Inn so you could walk along the towpath and look at the line of boats please sign the petition, if you are local and don't want an abandoned carpark becoming a crime hotspot please sign the petition, if you are a boater and want to moor at one of the nicest moorings in the Wakefield area please sign.
