Thank you everyone for supporting this petition to help us get permit parking and more affordable parking for residents and workers. We had a meeting today with City Councilor Cany Mero-Carlson and Clare Robbins, we met on Wednesday March 30 at 9am to discuss the challenges with parking for handicap persons, residents and workers and we are actively coming up with some strategies to improve the well being of our community. We have a public hearing at the City Hall on Tuesday April 5th at 6pm, we welcome everyone who has been impacted by the new parking changes and fees to share their testimonies on how this has impacted them personally or their businesses.
We have received a total of 75 signatures to date with paper petitions and the online petition here on Change.org, please continue sharing this petition with your friends, family and colleagues the key here is continuing to build awareness of the issues at hand.
Here are the specific talking points for the upcoming City Hall meeting next Tuesday;
- Residential parking permits or access to affordable and guaranteed parking for residents in Canal District, with a focus on finding additional parking for 85-87 Harding Street which has no parking at all for tenants. The other residential buildings have at least 1 guaranteed parking space, however for units with more than 1 vehicle this poses a challenge we need to resolve.
- Handicap Access Ramp on Harding Street, Green Street and Water Street.
- Guaranteed affordable parking for workers paid for or sponsored by local businesses.
- Improved Communication w/ Signs that have QR code with a live link to the City of Worcester Websites, specifically a link to what the City is doing to improve the parking situation and other improvements/ Projects being performed in Canal District. The signs should be highly visible and located on Water Street, Harding Street and Green Street So residents can easily scan QR code and get up to date updates on Canal District Developments.
- Safety at night for the residents and workers. The city plans on installing bright LED lights under the bridge to help improve safety.
- EV/ Electric Vehicle Charging Stations. There are only 2 at Union Station this is a level 2 charger and very slow average 20 miles per hour charge, average vehicle with take 4-6 hours to get 80% charge. Consider using Fast Chargers. 1-3 charging capacity.
