Call for letters: Bishops withdraw from KAIROS: Ecumenical Justice Initiatives

Hi all, First we heard that the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) were refusing to make good on their financial commitments to residential school survivors. Now, we've learned that the CCCB has withdrawn from KAIROS - Canada's foremost ecumenical social justice organization (see the attached article for more details). KAIROS has been very active in reconciliation efforts on behalf of the churches, and it is a supreme shame that the CCCB - part of the founding group of KAIROS members - have chosen to leave the coalition. Especially amidst increased calls from Pope Francis for ecumenical action and attention to social justice, this choice appears to be 'more political than theological', in the words of Citizens for Public Justice director, Joe Gunn. Folks are calling for letters to be sent in to the Prairie Messenger, the Catholic Register, your local Catholic media outlet, and to the CCCB themselves expressing disappointment with this move.
