Fresh news from the Hypatia Day petition. It crossed 500 votes mark. Due to the wonderful efforts by our friends from UK and Argentina of informing a wider circle of scholars and Hypatia fans around the world the petition gained 200 votes within the last week only and still has a very high momentum. Five (5) new countries joined: Uruguay, Colombia, Venezuela, Nicaragua and Chile. Overall 40 countries are on the list, all 5 continents, except for Antarctica. The first ten are: Canada (141), US (106), Argentina (39), UK (36), Spain (15), Greece (13), Russia (12), Austria(11), Uruguay (11), Israel (10)... Surprisingly, still no signers from China, India, Japan, Korea... The number of professional historians of astronomy among signers reached 50, while other scholars scored 15. Though several new historians/astronomers/scientists signed the petition, I encourage other scholars - who currently sit on the fence - to sign it as well. It is never too late. Ari Belenkiy
