My apologies for being out of the loop while on vacation in February! In view of comments posted please note that, in addition to the Prime Minister and my parliamentary representative, Minister Jane Philpott, the petition did go to Minister Qualtrough (Sport and persons with Disabilities), Minister Duclos (Families, Children and Social Development), as well as to Canada's UN Ambassador Blanchard (who will need to report on the CRPD in Geneva this year).
The PM's office forwarded the petition to Minister Dion, and as he implies in his reply to Cathy Grant (see her posted comment), Ministers Qualtrough and Duclos have been mandated to draft a "National Disabilities Act" that may well address the concerns of my petition, even if the protocol is not ratified. Though this would be a definite step forward, many Canadians would still like the protocol ratified for the reasons given by Ken A. Taylor in his comments -- with which I am in complete agreement.
Since submitting the petition, there have been articles and a radio interview on the petition, and other media initiatives are under way which will be detailed in future updates.
Meanwhile, almost 18,500 Canadians have signed the petition and no doubt more will do so when an update is posted in the next few weeks. Let's keep spreading the word!
