The Issue

Canadian legend and frontman of The Tragically Hip, Gord Downie, has been diagnosed with terminal brain cancer.  Gord, 52, and Laura Leigh Usher have four children.  Downie has expressed his love for Canada time and time again - one need only listen to his song lyrics or watch his numerous interviews to hear his patriotic passion. Canada Post welcomes anyone to make stamp subject suggestions.  A National Stamp Advisory Committee guides Canada Post in selecting stamp subjects based on their contribution to celebrating and promoting Canada. Gord Downie epitomizes everything Canadian; The Hip is THE Canadian Band and Gord's lyrics demonstrate and celebrate his love for Canada as they promote locales across our great country.  To quote Mr. Downie:  "I love this country" and "I love my idea of this country." It typically takes 2 years from submittance for a subject to be considered.  PLEASE help me get Gord Downie on a stamp ASAP so that he can see himself ALONE on the stamp and celebrate that moment with his wife and children.  Let Gord see his children's expressions when they see only their Dad on a Canadian stamp. Show Gord how proud Canada is of him and his true dedication to Canada through his craft. While The Hip were deservedly featured on a stamp together in 2013, this petition is for just Gord D. himself to be featured on a Canadian postage stamp. Please sign this petition so that Canada Post and The National Stamp Advisory Committee will a) place Gord Downie on a stamp and b) do so quickly so that Gord and his family can enjoy this accomplishment together. CANADA let's make this happen so that Gord Downie can continue to travel this great country forever! Thank you. Sincerely, Katie Corbett Ontario, Canada
