Canada Post introduced the Fuel Surcharge on packages several years ago, promising it was a temporary measure to address increased Fuel/Oil pricing.  They state that the Fuel Surcharge is reviewed and adjusted on a weekly basis and that it is intended to reflect market conditions.  This is unfortunately not the case.  The fuel surcharge has risen exponentially over the past year and the price of oil is at it's lowest point in the last 12-months currently, a the time of writing this.  The Fuel Surcharge has remained artificially high and has NOT decreased as promised with the decline of oil/fuel prices.  many gas stations have also kept the price of fuel artificially high, but it is no where near where they were at the peaks when the average price per litre exceeded $2.00 or more dollars.  We as Canadians are being gouged.  By Canada Post, by Food Suppliers, by Gas Stations, by big business in general seeing increasing pricing, but when the fundamental food or commodity lowers, the price does not properly reflect or adjust accordingly back.  This also adds pressure to inflation.  It is time to take a stand, and the first stand is against Canada Post.  During busy holiday mailing, the fuel surcharge is at near its highest point, if not its highest point with the price of oil at its lowest point this year!  This is not only immoral, it should be illegal.  Perhaps it's time to start class-action lawsuits to counter the threats we are facing economically.
