Can they Kick It? Our Kids Need Fields.

The Issue

Currently there are only five fields designated for over 1800 kids playing soccer in Santa Fe and Northern New Mexico. This incredible shortage was emphasized this year when the fields at the Downs were lost due to water issues. This upended the Northern soccer leagues and we quickly had to scramble to facilitate over 800 families.

Since then, our kids have been playing on baseball fields and conditions unfit for a good experience (turns out eight-year-olds and goat heads aren’t a great combo). This field shortage also means baseball players have less room. Which in turn means kids who play lacrosse, flag football, and other outdoor sports are under the same space squeeze.

The lack of fields go far beyond just soccer and it’s already started to affect Northern New Mexico’s families.

We are asking lawmakers and Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham to provide funding for a regional soccer complex in Northern New Mexico that would provide ample space not only for our young athletes but also create an environment conducive to their growth and development.

Investing in Multi Regional Soccer Complex is not just about providing more fields; it's about investing in our children's future, promoting physical activity among youth, fostering community spirit, and boosting local economy through hosting tournaments.

We urge you to sign this petition today so we can show decision-makers how much this issue matters to us all. Together we can ensure that every child has the opportunity they deserve.
