Can Saving Zamperla’s Power Surge bring St Luke's+Arrunga+Ambrose Day to the Next Level?
The issue
UPDATE: The teachers have officially approved of the idea for now, however there will be more information to come afterwards!
Location: St Luke's Catholic College, Marsden Park
We are regularly updating this page with exciting attractions!
A flyer/brochure will also come soon!
This event is predicted to happen: Friday 12 December, 2025 (Term 4, Week 9)
Welcome to what was initially St Luke's Day (@ St Luke's Catholic College, Marsden Park), which wasn't the most magical day for high school students..
"I wish this was like Luna Park; Where are all the rides?" - Anonymous
"I grew up with the Power Surge ride at Luna Park (Sydney); but I never got the chance to ride it." - Mia (Mika) Kisur (last seen the ride in 2022)

This was St Luke's Day in 2024. It was a really fun event for the first annual St Luke's Day, but the magic was missing (although we don't blame the budget!)
Other students from Year 11 have advocated to make a difference for the St Luke's Day for this year with more attractions (Not just rides!) but attractions for teachers and students who do not choose to ride the amusement rides on offer.
In 2022, the then-Year 8's (Now Year 11) have had an excursion at Luna Park and the following day at Raging Waters, with many positive reviews. Let's relive this event, everyone is welcome!
With only up to three entertaining rides for teenagers, height restrictions and only one session of thrilling fun in 2024, We plan to team up with Joylands and Sideshow Amusements to give the student-loved classic Power Surge a second chance (the one they offer is the only kind in the WORLD to spin backwards), to shine in amusement festivals ever since its last NSW appearance at the 2023 Sydney Royal Easter Show. There is only one trailer model left, which can amp up the fun for teachers, secondary, primary, Arrunga and Ambrose students this year!
With a day full of rides, animals, entertainment and more for all age groups, this event will keep everyone over the moon!
This is the Power Surge ride:

Details:
- Runs for 95 seconds
- The ride spins clockwise for the first rotation before it spins anticlockwise.
- Riders spin upside down at time; just like the Space Roller ride.
On Ride:

Off Ride:

To make this moment possible yet extraordinary, there will be infinite possibilities and activities. In order to make it true, we will collect money through a tax deductible donation to donate the demountable buildings to a charity if approved by YCS.
If the Power Surge, a ride that many students have been riding in previous events, this event can include bigger and better rides that could give students something they may experience once in their lifetime.
Furthermore, we will also collect donations by teachers, students and parents until St Luke's Day happens, as well as two jumping castles and affordable/cheap arcade games (such as micro Pacman and other machines, claw games, basketball, skeeball and air hockey from Rebel, Big W, Kmart or other stockers) that parents or teachers occupy for a safer budget in our school.
Furthermore, another vision we have is... The Virtual Arcade.
This arcade projects gameplay of student favourite arcade games including one TV for rhythm games like Maimai DDR/Pump It Up, with the other TV being projected with hour long arcade games favourited by Students including Tomb Raider and possibly other gameplays. This arcade will be located in the top level of the performance hall (Dance room).
The selected families who offer their jumping castles and arcade games to the school will be permitted to attend the event (including the parents) including the rides, film, disco and other activities.
This moment may be the last St Luke's amusement event that the campaigners in our team can attend in the school before we graduate. Let's make this moment count together; Every donation and signature counts. Share this with your friends or put it in your social media stories!
How the event will work (Please read if you are Decision Makers)
To avoid an overpopulation for the event, we cannot cater student's parents as of yet for the event, except for the families who have worked towards bringing this event to life.
Students with illness/health conditions and phobias/fears are more likely to be restricted from specific carnival ride/s.
We are currently working on a google form which SOL and SOE students can fill in for rides (recommended; flat rides) that they want to see for this year’s event. After the form’s due date, we will collate the information of every ride that the students want to see in the event. Through keeping it budget friendly, we will limit the amount of rides depending on how much the school can/has to offer.
To get students more adrenaline and fun, they will be getting more coupons through digital tickets (in order to make the event more sustainable!) through challenges such as the inflatable obstacle course (located at Oval A), Disco Dance Competition (at the Performance Hall), Recess + Lunch Blooket 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners in every game and other activities offered!
- Win the Ninja Run Obstacle Course = 30 coupons!
- Participate in the Ninja Run Obstacle Course = 15 coupons!
- Win the Tough Grind Obstacle Course = 20 coupons!
- Participate in the Tough Grind Obstacle Course = 10 coupons!
- Win Round 1 of the Wipeout Inflatable Obstacle Challenge = 30 coupons!
- Participate Round 1 of the Wipeout Inflatable Obstacle Challenge = 15 coupons!
- Win Round 2 of the Wipeout Inflatable Obstacle Challenge = + 30 coupons (60 altogether)
Although students will need to be aware of how many coupons they have before going on each ride. Each student will start with 50 coupons as soon as the event starts.
Furthermore, Arrunga and Ambrose students will not contain coupons in their ticket and have free access to all rides as each student may have their own needs, and as some Arrunga and Ambrose students would benefit from more gentle, sensory friendly activities.
Height Restrictions
Red: <99cm
Blue: 100cm-119cm
Green: 120cm-129cm
Yellow: 130cm+
The rides that are Coded Red in this petition and the upcoming map (❤️) are rides that every height group can ride, with the exception of reds that must be accompanied by a guardian 18+.
Rides coded purple (💜) also allow everyone to ride, although both Red and Blue require an 18+ guardian.
Rides coded pink (🩷) do not allow Reds to ride, although Blue can ride with a guardian 18+.
Green coded rides (💚) only allow Green (with a guardian 18+) and Yellow people to ride.
Yellow rides (💛) only allow persons over 130cm+ to ride, either with a guardian or alone.
There will also be coloured flags displayed in front of every ride to exhibit which rides are coded based on which colour group.
However, the new rides we are planning to bring are:
- Power Surge 💚 (8 coupons)
- Nostalgic Carousel ❤️ (2 coupons)
- Rockin Tug ❤️ (4 coupons)
- Jurassic Family Rollercoaster ❤️ (4 coupons)
- Sky Flyer 💚 (6 coupons)
- Body Rock 💚 (6 coupons)
- Laurie's Breakdance 💚(6 coupons)
- Free Fall ❤️(4 coupons)
These rides are fun for all ages to upgrade from the mini swinging chairs and the pirate ship from last year, and to make the event feel like a real theme park!
We are also replacing Disco Show 2002 with the Body Rock ride and the Storm with Laurie's Breakdance, in order to cater more students during the rides.
We are also planning to keep:
Trackless Train Ride (for Arrunga students) ❤️
Bumper Cars ❤️
Teacups ❤️
(The final plan with the rides will yet to be announced through an update when we collate results.)
And what could be more exciting than that? This event will hold Australia's only free falling ride in Australia 'Stunt Jump' (💜) (8 coupons) that will get you flying on air!
Due to the expansion of the school area with the budget of the demountables after they get donated, there may be more rides that covers for this year's event and in future.
Our DJs will be playing music created by the St Luke's Music students as well as energetic music, with the support of bubble and smoke machines! The bumper cars and teacups from last year's event will be there to see you again for an unforgettable day!
Map (We are currently updating it)
Orange (Public Locations)
A: Oval A (The Sensory Safe Space; gentle rides for SOF, Ambrose, Arrunga and students who do not like intense rides)

C: Oval C (carnival games and jumping castles)
D: Petting zoo and Recess and Lunch Pet Show
E: Basketball Courts
F: Performance Hall (Disco and Arcade)
G: Virtual Arcade (Dance Room; Level 2 in Hall)
H: Sheltered Courts
I: Marketplace/Room 1 of Chimerical Cinema (Free Spider-Verse Duology Cinema Day)
J: Hub/Room 2 of Chimerical Cinema (Free Incredibles Duology Cinema Day)
K: Upper Hub (E sports and other activities)
K: Theatre (For Virtual Reality and activities led by SOL and SOE for SOF students)
L: Food Stands and Vans
Reserved locations:
M: Arrunga (Reserved for Arrunga students + teachers and SOL + SOE buddies)
N: Ambrose Preschool and Early Learning Centre (Reserved for Ambrose Preschool students + teachers and SOL + SOE buddies)
O: The creative spaces for Creative Writing and Artwork competition
(Architectural proposals of the whole event will be released soon!)
On Oval A would be the Sensory Safe Space. There will be no loud music, epileptic lights and smoke machines in the Sensory Safe Space to ensure the safety of Arrunga, SOF and Ambrose students as they may be more sensory sensitive. There will be bubbles and a snow storm machine (both offered by Planet Entertainment) in the Sensory Safe Space to offer a fun experience for the students and people with sensory difficulties.
On Oval B is the EXtreme Entertainment, which are the extreme rides that may contain loud music and smoke machines. Only students and people who meet the Green requirement (with a buddy) or higher can ride the rides on this section. Although not many extreme rides may be on offer, this may include rides such as the Storm or Disco Show (or Body Rock) that were on offer last year, and the Power Surge. More rides will be added in the upcoming map when receiving ride requests from students.
Primary school students are allowed to access the primary school playground (the mountain and instruments next to the kiss and ride parking), the rock climbing wall and mountain playground and the left side of the sheltered and basketball courts for the day, while high school students are allowed to access the right side of the courts. Each student is to treat each other with respect, with at least one teacher supervising and rotating each hour.
Volleyball, Netball and Basketball comps between teachers and students will be held during recess and lunch time. Multiple food vans and stands will be offered in front of the church, next to the cafeteria. The cafe will also be open.
Note:
Although, the extreme rides such as Power Surge that may have limited Arrunga students and no Ambrose students will require two lines for both K-6 and 7-12 altogether, with seperate lines for Arrunga students.
(Due to the Power Surge ride being manufactured in Sideshow Amusements, Western Australia, there may require shipping from Sideshow to Joylands if not stored at Joylands, Austral.)
Each ride will have evenly distributed groups for each round. For example; rides with 24 seats such as the Power Surge etc; will have approximately 6 people from the 7-12, K-6, Ambrose and Arrunga students for each ride. However, during the rides, everyone (including solo riders) will be grouped or partnered up with someone in order to make the event more inclusive and give everyone a chance to ride. We highly recommend for students to partner or group up with someone who may be alone as this event is for absolutely everyone!
There will be height charts available inside every classroom and every ride. Students are to be measured in class if speculated to be under 130cm, and can be rechecked in the rides. We are working on adding the condition requirements as part of the information in this petition and the event.
Sustainability
To make this event more sustainable, the tickets will be emailed to each SOL and SOE student the day prior to the event. If students do not have a digital device to bring on the day, they will be accompanied by a teacher or buddy waiting next to them on the ride who will use their phone to scan the tickets on their devices. The data of every ride that the students have gone on will automatically be collated to the website or platform used to collect the data.
Students are required to wear sport uniform, with the exception of students or their parents who donate up to $2 towards the St Luke’s Faith Community in building the parish as well as future liturgies, baptisms, reconciliations, communions and confirmations, who are permitted to wear Mufti for the day they donate, with uniform requirements applying (no visible cleavage, no shorts higher than thighs etc).
Student helper buddies for Ambrose and Arrunga are highly recommended to wear Superhero suits to display themselves as Arrunga student's "heroes"!
If students disregard mufti rules, they may receive anything from an incorrect uniform email to an afternoon detention for the next week.
Furthermore, we will not keep animals locked behind its own cage at the Petting Zoo. We will allow a space for each animal where they can all communicate without cruelty. Although pets that may have health conditions or requirements with other animals, such as not communicating well with other pets, please let us know on this google form on the Monday before the event begins.
This event will be using online tickets as on the Monday after the event, the school will be having a year meeting for each grade to determine prizes for students who have reached an achievement/milestone eg;
- The Madcap (Student who has rode the most rides at the event)
- The Gentle Spirit (Student who has rode with different people from different age groups in most/every rides)
- The Death-Or-Glory (Student who has rode the most intense rides)
- The Confidant (Presented to Arrunga Buddies from SOL and SOE)
There will potentially be more awards listed and presented.
Grey tickets will be offered for Arrunga students as Grey is a sensory safe colour, and to represent them as Arrunga students, despite the uniform they wear as they can also choose to wear Mufti and Superhero costumes! If Arrunga students who meet the height and condition requirements wish to ride extreme rides, they must be accompanied by their buddy or teacher at all times with their online ticket.
Like 2024, we will also have Popcorn, Fairy Floss and Snow Cone stands as they contribute to less waste and more minimal packaging. We also strictly follow the Reduce, Reuse and Recycle process. Please use the recycling bin everytime after eating 💚
To ensure safety for all students, there are different times allocated for every year group to be attending the event:
8:45am: Arrunga and SOE buddy helpers (transported by mini buses that will stay in the Oval if Arrunga students want to leave the oval and come back at any time.)
9am: SOL and SOE (must be gentle with Arrunga, SOF and Ambrose students)
9:05am: SOF
9:10am: Ambrose
Activities
If students do not or cannot attend the rides in the event, the school will offer these activities:
9am-2:30pm
- An animal and plant farm/nursery + Recess and Lunch Pet show for all ages!
- Sports; Basketball, Netball, Volleyball, Handball, Soccer and other activities
- a disco in the Performance Hub (next to sheltered courts)
- Face Painting, Henna and Airbrush Tattoos, Crocheting, poetry writing, painting, bracelet making in the kindergarten and School of Foundations classrooms.
- Free Carnival and Arcade Games (Laughing Clowns, Connect 4, Basketball, Skeeball, Air Hockey) in Oval C
- The Upper Hub will offer activities for SOL and SOE buddies to do with SOF students such as painting, colouring, puzzles, board games and E-Sports (Minecraft, Overwatch, Rocket League, Fortnite, Trackmania and Super Smash Mario Bros.) Unfortunately, there are students in St Luke's who may have no company with other students during the event. Therefore, the hub will also be a good place where they can have company and make new friends or have someone to talk to.
- There will also be virtual reality rollercoasters in the Hub theatrette during the whole event.
- For Arrunga and Ambrose: Sensory friendly zones with activities with supervision from teacher inside the classroom and when leaving, such as kinetic sand, bubbles, funny mirrors, drawing/colouring etc. There will also be an Activities tent and picnic blankets in the seating area next to the basketball court (the tent will shelter them from the court due to injuries that may occur, therefore teachers and buddies should sit in the back of the tent.) While Ambrose students will also have access to picnic blankets in front of the Arrunga tent!
Selected Buddies from School of Leadership and School of Entrepreneurs can also participate in activities with the Arrunga and Ambrose students depending on their assigned times of the day.
In addition to the activities that will be held that were listed above, these activities will also take place on the day:
9am-10:30am
Art competition for all grades! (likely held by Mrs Smith, one primary school teacher and a teacher in the Arrunga and Ambrose centres. The showcase will happen the next Monday at recess (10:30-11am), and the winners may be presented on the last day of school.)
10:30-11am and 12:30-1pm
Sport comps at the grounds
From 10:30am-2:30pm
Chimerical Cinema opens at the Marketplace and Hub (There is no cost to attend the Chimerical Cinema.)
Movies on offer:
- 'Spider-Man: Spider-Verse Duology' @ the Marketplace (Room 1)
- 'The Incredibles' Duology @ the Hub (Room 2)
10:30-12:30pm
- Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse
- The Incredibles
12:30-2:30pm
- Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse
- The Incredibles 2
A permission slip will be released 1-2 weeks prior to the event for students to fill if they choose to ride, with no cost. The permission slip will be due two days before the event.

“We are called the School of Entrepreneurs, because we want our students to create something unique from their strengths. We don't control what that creation looks like, that creation is theirs.” - Francis O’Callaghan
Where we can hire Power Surge:
1. Alan Casey Entertainment (if still available in stock) http://www.alancaseyentertainment.com.au/Carnival-Rides-Mechanical-Festival-Rides-%20Australia.htm
2. Joylands (If still at stock)
https://www.joylands.com.au/contact-us/
3. Sideshow Amusements (In stock at Perth, shipping is required through Plan A, B etc)
https://www.sideshowamusements.com.au/the-carousel/
4. Entertainment OZ (Third Party to Joylands?)
https://www.entertainoz.com.au/services/amusements/better-amusement-hire-joylands/
Extra Logistics:
Due to the extensive shipping process if required to ship from Sideshow Amusements (Perth) to St Luke's Catholic College, Marsden Park with fuel-efficient trailers, drivers will be taking breaks and optimising routes, and potentially switching drivers. There may be two trailers during the process due to the trailer model consisting of a mural and the flat ride. The mural may not require a large trailer, and may benefit from a small truck (can be cost efficient as long as it transports in time). Drivers who drive the trailer for an extensive period may switch to driving the truck, and back to the trailer when getting closer to St Luke's.

The transportation process will start one week before the event (approximately 5 December).

Although pets that may have health conditions or requirements with other animals, such as not communicating well with other pets, please let us know on this google form on the Monday before the event begins.
This event will be using online tickets as on the Monday after the event, the school will be having a year meeting for each grade to determine prizes for students who have reached an achievement/milestone eg;

Learning = Infinite Possibilities at St Luke's Catholic College.
