CAMRA: CAMRA should sever their close links with Wetherspoons
The Issue
CAMRAs links with the Wetherspoons pub chain compromises CAMRAs integrity as a consumer organisation and is very likey to have led to the closure of hundreds of independent pubs.
CAMRA gives away £20 worth of 50p off a pint vouchers that encourage members to visit Wetherspoons pubs 40 times a year. This will reduce the revenue of other pubs, sometimes compromising their viability.
Wetherspoons bulk buying capability and their low pricing policy reduces the price consumers expect to pay for a pint and some other pubs close to wetherspoons have to reduce their prices to compete; this can affect their viability. Whilst this is normal competition CAMRA should NOT be supporting them as part of their campaign to increase membership. Like it or not Wetherspoons are the Tescos of the pub world, and the likes of Tescos have closed the corner shops. Do you want this to happen to your local pub, with or without the support of CAMRA?

Would you trust WHICH as a consumer organisation if they promoted Tescos exclusively in this way?
