During this scary uncertain time, The University of New Orleans(UNO) has suspended all on campus classes and has completely moved to online classes because of COVID-19. Due to the outbreak and rapid spread of the Coronavirus, social distancing and quarantine is now being practiced by all UNO students. .As a result, many students and residents are not able to attend work to generate adequate income to meet their housing needs. Despite this, students living in Privateer Place  are still required to pay full rent to private companies such as United Students & Campus Living Villages during a pandemic. This is a non-existent semester, which means 3/4 months of rent will have to be paid for accommodation that isn't being used due to a majority of us returning or isolating at home with loved ones instead of student housing. Many of us are already struggling financially, so the added stress of housing insecurity should be addressed by these companies rather than them preying upon college students. Please sign this petition, whether you're a student or not you are helping many of us uplift our voices and hold wealthy greedy corporations like Campus Living Villages accountable.  

Solution: Payment plans are not enough. Campus living Villages should reduce or completely suspend rent for students for the duration of this crisis and allow students to break their leases free of charge if they choose to move back home. 

Wealthy private student accommodation companies such as Campus Living Villages should not be profiting off of students during these difficult and uncertain times. ADEQUATE HOUSING IS A RIGHT NOT A PRIVILEGE.
