Baroness Doreen Lawrence was in conversation this evening (17th of January) at the Bank of England with the Chief Economist Andy Haldane discussing the impact of the death of Stephen and the legacy 25 years on through changes in equality legislation, criminal prosecution procedures, establishment of Stephen Lawrence Centre, Stephen Lawrence Research Centre at De Montfort University and now from 2019 Stephen Lawrence Day on the 22rd of April. She gave an insight as a Peer in the House of Lords and shared her hopes and aspirations for the future of young people in Britain. She also gave advice to the Bank of England to increase its diversity at levels in the organisation and create more opportunities for black young people to learn about the bank through internships and apprenticeship schemes.
As part of the Q&A session with the audience she expressed her support for the #BanknotesOfColour campaign and would like to see Mary Seacole on the next £50 note.
