Like Mary Seacole the women and men from Africa and the West Indies who served in WW1&2 suffered under colonial rule and then the colour bar despite their commitment to Britain. With the exposure of the Windrush Scandal in April 2018 it is important that the children & grandchildren of the Windrush Generation who were denied their rights as British Citizens as result of the Hostile Immigration Environment get the justice they deserve. Three generations of Windrush descendants have paid their taxes and we want a fair and just compensation scheme for the emotional and financial loss as result of abuse of their human rights.

The government however are considering imposing a cap on compensation on claims which will have a major impact on claims which involved death, loss of pension, property home and deportation as result of government policy from the Home Office.

Please sign this petition https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/227821  which addresses question 15 in the Windrush Compensation Consultation  to ensure the Home Secretary, Savid Javid does ‘Right The Wrongs’ for Windrush Scandal. With 10,000 signatures the Minster needs to give a written response on his potential plans to impose a cap. With 100,000 signatures this will be a full debate in Parliament were MPs can scrutinse the compensation scheme.

Please also see link to the consultation document which closes on the 16th of November. Please also respond to this also as important https://www.gov.uk/government/news/windrush-compensation-scheme-consultation-extends

Martin Forde QC who has been appointed as the independent adviser to the Home Office to help design the compensation scheme will consider the petition response and number of signatures as part of his feedback.

It is important that the victims of the Windrush Scandal get the compensation otherwise many will be left in poverty and be destitute like Mary Seacole despite her heroic deeds in the Crimean War. Sadly this has been also a similar experience for the many women and men who served in WW1&2 who today have not been fully recognised today.
