Why this petition matters

Started by Millie Days

My name is Millie and i think it’s very important to talk about why eating disorder teams are discharging mentally struggling patients battling disordered behaviours surrounding food because their physical health is looking to be better.

I am an anorexia warrior and i’m grateful to have the privilege to receive help and support from an outstanding EDT. As much as i’m improving physically, it is still rather difficult mentally but due to lack of funding i am due to be discharged because the team actually can’t provide that help. At the minute, the team are funded for the physical aspect and not so much the actual mental side of it and i’m petitioning to get more funding into Eating Disorder Teams and CAMHS as a whole so that more young people can receive treatment earlier and improve their lives quicker.

Anorexia nervosa has the highest mortality rate of any psychiatric disorder and this includes suicides as a result too. Of those who survive, 50% recover, 30% improve and 20% are left chronically ill.

”Hospital admissions for eating disorders have risen by more than a third (37%) across all age groups over the last two years, figures show.

Experts described the figures as "worrying" and urged the government to promote early intervention.

There were 19,040 admissions for eating disorders in 2018/19, up from 16,558 the year before and 13,885 in 2016/17.”

Lets fund more psychiatric support so these numbers decrease!
