Le problème

In the heart of Northern Cameroon, 1,640 km² of ancestral land—more than 15 times the size of Paris—has been transformed into a private playground for billionaires and wealthy trophy hunters. This massive estate is controlled by Baroness Ariane de Rothschild and the family office of the Swiss-French private bank Edmond de Rothschild.

While the international press focuses on succession disputes and legal battles between the Rothschild family and former managers for control of this concession (as reported by Tribune de Genève : https://pulitzercenter.org/stories/trophy-hunting-versus-baka-rights-cameroon the reality on the ground remains hidden: this estate was built at the direct expense of local communities' fundamental rights.

The Entertainment of the Ultra-Rich at the Expense of Local Residents

In this Faro Hunting Zone (ZIC):
A luxury safari disconnected from local reality: African wildlife is sold off as hunting trophies for the sole pleasure and entertainment of an international financial elite disconnected from the country's realities.

 Dispossessed indigenous populations:
To preserve this private luxury haven, local and indigenous communities (particularly the Baka and neighboring populations : https://www.survivalinternational.org/films/baka-trophy-hunting are banned from accessing their ancestral lands. According to investigations by the Pulitzer Center, they are brutally deprived of their historic rights to subsistence hunting, fishing, foraging, and traditional medicine.

 A neo-colonial model of conservation:
It is unacceptable that in the 21st century, a European high-finance empire can rule over an African territory larger than major world capitals while stripping native inhabitants of their means of survival under the guise of "trophy hunting."
Wildlife conservation must no longer serve as a cover for the privatization of nature and the economic oppression of local populations.
