Increase Transparency In Camden County Using The Georgia Open Records Act

The Issue

By allowing the community to have proactive public access to Law Enforcement Official’s Personnel Records, we can help improve our environment by identifying Oath Of Office violations before they lead to someone’s death.

A jury found Zechariah Presley guilty of violating his Oath of Office in the 2018 by shooting Tony Green, 33, resulting in his death. By using the Georgia Open Records Act we see that this is not the first time Presley has brought upon the feeling of harm or death threats to members of the Community.

This same officer, via the same Open Records Act, survived the same scenario as a citizen himself, that the Mr Green did not. The similarities and irony reveal that we need to perform a crowd endeavor to assist our local government with due diligence.

Making this information publicly available, which is clearly outlined for availability in the Georgia Law Enforcement Open Records Act (specifically section IV Personnel Records on page 13), will aid those who are not as technically savvy, within socioeconomic reach for filing paperwork, or physically capable.

It also shows great effort for Transparency in a community that deserves and demands it now more than ever.
