Stop mandated criminal investigation of elementary school students

The Issue

A recent ruling by the Camden County Prosecutor's Office (CCPO) has the police investigating all students' infractions as possibly criminal. They have instructed the police to investigate everything "as minor as a simple name calling incident that the school would typically handle internally, to a full blown major investigation". This is against the will of parents, educators and the school board. The CCPO has also instructed the police to notify child protective services for all such incidents. The involvement of police in such developmental matters is outside of their training, a strain on their resources, and an unnecessary trauma to the children and families involved. Please tell the CCPO to let educators handle the education of children and the discipline that entails.
