In 1985 Pelle Lindbergh, starting goaltended for the Philadelphia Flyers, crashed his car driving home on Somerdale Rd. Lindbergh, 26, was recognized as the top goaltender in the NHL and was one year removed from winning the Vezina Trophy as the league's best goalie. The Swedish born player was poised to be the next great goalie in Philadelphia. The loss of Lindbergh mid-season rocked not only his Flyers family and the Delaware Valley, but also the world of hockey. Its long past due for the road to have a name change to honor a young man, who's loss hurt so many who knew him and watched him on the ice. Regardless the circumstances of his death, Lindbergh should be memorialized and idolized for the man he was, and the joy he brought to those around him.
