Turn South End Green Slip Road into a Piazza

Turn South End Green Slip Road into a Piazza
The Issue
We, the undersigned, support the closure of the South End Green sliproad as soon as possible and the creation of a piazza, as in Belsize Village, that unites the restaurants on the west of South End Road with South End Green.
Background:
The creation of two streateries in NW3 - at South End Green and Belsize Village - have shown the transformational power of outside seating and al fresco dining to revitalise an area and keep our communities going in tough times. In Belsize Village, the large open square has been turned into a wonderful piazza used by all businesses and residents alike to great acclaim. We want the same to happen at South End Green.
It has been an aspiration of the South End Green community to close the slip road for years. We were told by Camden Council that the creation of a streatery would be based on the closure of the sliproad between the fountain at South End Green and the restaurants and cafes between Pond Street and Dominique's. However, despite the backing of all local residents' associations, amenity groups, and the local councillors, this has not happened: leaving the streatery only half-delivered, its benefits only half-realised, and the project only half-complete by the council.
Creating a piazza would open up South End Green to visitors, make its seating and green space more useable to residents, and turn the area into something really special: both a haven for residents and a tourist attraction in its own right to the benefit of local businesses.
