Camden council: Stop your unlawful practices! Stop oppressing sen families
The Issue
Please sign and share this petition. I want Camden council and the government to be held accountable for disabled children.
Camden must be held accountable for failing disabled children.
I am a disabled parent to two disabled children who are without a school and being failed by Camden council.
Camden council are punishing my and many other families simply for having disabled children.
My children are not receiving their lawful right to an education, they and many many others are suffering through the following:
- Withholding from schools and health of adequate assessments,
- Withholding of essential therapies,
- Withholding adequate identification of needs and corresponding recommendations,
- No Full time 1:1 in any educational setting in the borough
- unlawful criteria/ route and assessment for disability social care (through functional needs grading system)
- withholding of Short breaks service/adequate respite,
- Refusal to implement EHCP contents on a provably massive scale.
- Brazen disrespect for children, families and especially to parents including lying, gaslighting, bullying and ignoring communication
- Withholding pretty much all human rights
- Withholding Rights under the equality act of 2010
- No specialist settings other than hubs/ bases/ Swiss Cottage School. Nothing is in the pipeline appropriate for the vast majority of SEN children and a
- refusal to adequately consult or name out of borough schools even though there is no in borough alternative

Camden Council are destroying vulnerable families lives for no other reason than incompetence.
Parents are forced to tribunal to get our children an adequate education and even then they are forced to judicial review. SEN parents are unscrupulously forced in huge levels of debt due to these illegal council practices.
My own disability and health has dramatically declined due to the constant and relentless daily battle of fighting for my children's basic human right to a suitable education.
Camden council are the only council in London to retain Mark Small (the notoriously ableist solicitor) to represent them in SEN matters. Every other borough cut ties but not Camden.
Lawyer rebuked for gloating at ‘win’ over parents seeking special needs support.

They have instructed this heartless bully to fight my family in tribunal in order to block my children from getting the education and therapy they need. Legal aid will not cover representation and I cannot afford a solicitor. In the mean time hearings are not until next year and my children are meant to just sit and rot. A freedom of information request showed that Camden has spent over 396k in the past 3 years on Baker Smalls solicitors alone. I have been unlawfully told to home school my children despite Camden knowing I am a disabled parent and with no regard to the neglect of my own care needs by Camden.
Camden have been told by parents they need to open special needs schools, especially considering the dramatic numbers of children leaving the borough and the recent closing of several schools. These empty schools could have been converted into specialist settings but they will undoubtedly be sold off to build yet more unaffordable and inaccessible flats.
Nobody is holding these councils to account so without everyone joining together for change, I fear that it simply wont happen.
Many of the Camden mainstreams do not want Ehcp children due to how camden LA withholds support/ funding.
Schools are allowed to discriminate against our disabled children and often parents are faced with biased school Governor boards who are not impartial when parents seek a review.
The system is broken.
The children are suffering.
The family’s are suffering.
The future is bleak.
For a Local Authority to block therapies and specialist education for children who need it, may help their next year’s budget but it's very short sighted. A false economy if ever there was one.
The significance of early intervention in these children means a dramatic improvement in outcomes in later life. This means less money spent on looking after highly traumatised and let down adults. Early intervention for children with special needs is crucial and no child, whatever their background, should ever be denied the help and support that they require. And no parent should feel alone when confronting these issues.
Every child deserves equal opportunities to learn and grow, regardless of their abilities.
Special Educational Needs (SEN) children in Camden have this fundamental right denied whilst Camden Council waste tax payers money on whims and blunders.

1355 empty properties in Camden!!!
Council spends £350k on scaffolding – with no work taking placehttps://www.camdennewjournal.co.uk/article/council-spends-350k-on-scaffolding-with-no-work-taking-place
How does Camden council justify wasting this amount of money while withholding funding from the most vulnerable disabled adults and children in Camden?
The education and social care system needs a huge overhaul to match up with modern times, we are supposed to be compassionate and inclusive yet local authorities are allowed to oppress sen families while acting illegally. This is having a hugely detrimental impact on already struggling sen families.
