The Flying Pig has NOT YET been saved

A recent press article with a headline that reads 'Cambridge pub The Flying Pig is saved from demolition' makes it sound as if the Pig has been saved from demolition and will continue to function along the sames lines as present. However, the developer still apparently wants to partially demolish the property and to have the existing landlord accommodation reduced from three bedrooms to one or potential none (forcing the current landlords to move out) and to remove the beer garden which as you know is a large outdoor space and very popular with punters. This latter proposal would have the effect of massively reducing capacity and trade and therefore the future viability of the pub. Finally there is the likelihood that the partial demolition will necessitate a lengthy period when the pub would be closed thus potentially harming the future viability of the pub still further.
So whilst full demolition is off the table and can be seen as a partial victory there are still serious concerns regarding the ongoing viability of the pub if the developer's proposals go ahead. Therefore, the Pig is most certainly not yet 'saved' and on the face of it the developer's proposals would appear to be in conflict with planning policies put in place to protect public houses from re-development. However, the developer is arranging another public consultation (see details below), where we can go along and quiz him and make suggestions on what we think is the best way forward. So, if you can, please make a date and come along armed with goodwill and some serious questions and recommendations, like, leave the Pig untouched and build around it!
See you there!
