Refunds for Calvert families affected by Calvert Soccer Association Covid Cancelled Season

The Issue

When COVID-19 hit Maryland all spring sport seasons were cancelled. While most organizations in the county worked with families to issue full or partial refunds, Calvert Soccer Association (CSA) remained silent. On April 23, 2020 an update was posted saying that there was nothing that could be done to refund participation fees in partial or full. But some options were available that would allow CSA to keep the money including “donating a tax deductible portion”. Families have been pleading with CSA for a partial or full refund citing the need to feed their families and pay bills due to COVID-19 related layoffs.

On April 30, 2020 (seven days after telling families they could not afford refunds) a CSA Board of Directors meeting was held and notes were published where it revealed:

- CSA received a Paycheck Protection Program Loan/Grant

- CSA combined two positions and raised the salary by $10,000

- CSA authorized a bonus of $3,000 for the Travel Admin for work that needed to be done learning a new system during the Summer 2020 months.

This petition is to persuade CSA to strongly consider the refunding of registration fees to the families of “over 600 players” (per the uniform disbursement email from CSA) that registered for the Spring 2020 season and for them to be transparent with their finances as a 501 C3 non-profit organization.
