Citizens Request Additional Workshop on Comprehensive Plan

Citizens Request Additional Workshop on Comprehensive Plan
Why this petition matters
After participating in five Comprehensive Plan workshops, the Land Use Map and Strategies which the consultant presented to the Planning Commission (PC) on June 28, 2017 included two major changes that were never presented to the citizens:
1. A new "Suburban Residential" area surrounding major Town Centers which calls for the expansion of sewer services and allowing multi-family development outside the Town Center boundaries; and
2. The expansion of the Huntingtown "Village" across Route 2/4 extending from Huntingtown High School to the southeast corner of Cox Road.
We believe these are major changes to what was presented at the workshops we attended, and we respectfully request that at least one additional workshop be held to gather citizens' input before moving forward with the drafting of the new Comprehensive Plan and Zoning Ordinance.
We are aware that these issues were again presented to the Planning Commission on July 19, 2017 and that the PC requested additional information on change #1 and directed staff to proceed with the proposed expansion of the Huntingtown "Village" (#2). Only a few people were in attendance and were permitted to speak AFTER the PC had made its decision. We believe ALL citizens should be given the opportunity to receive additional information, discuss and voice their opinions on these important issues, just as we did with the other issues presented to us during the five workshops.
