A stop sign is needed for vehicles entering Hwy 20 Westbound from Potter Valley to Ukiah. The current (new arrangement), gives people leaving Potter Valley a straight speeding shot right past our driveway and we are unsafe trying to get to our property. We have to merge into them but can’t see them in our blind spot. My Mother in-law was killed coming out of our driveway on Christmas Day 2019! The “fix” that Caltrans did to the Potter Valley exit has left us in an even worse situation. ALSO, it used to be a passing lane at the Potter Valley turnoff but it isn’t anymore. They left the sign two miles down the road that still tells people to pass in two miles!!! So, a lot of anxious drivers speed to pass in half the space that is needed to pass someone. This MERGING area in front of our driveway is being used as a passing lane for Hwy 20 traffic, as well as a LAUNCHING PAD coming from the Potter Valley turnoff! Some cars even pass to the right. All day long cars are honking at each other in their confusion of the proper way to navigate this area. It’s insane! Who is responsible for this! It needs to be fixed! I told the Caltrans office what would happen before they changed the road but they said they couldn’t accommodate our driveway in the change. MY MOTHER IN-LAW, Janice Kespohl (The retired, first female sheriff’s deputy in Mendocino County) IS NOW DEAD! And the residents of the 18 homes that turn into our driveway, remain unsafe every time we leave or return home.
