The Issue

Calm Crumlin Road is a community campaign group advocating for improved road safety measures and enforcement on the R110 at Crumlin Road & Dolphin's Barn.

Heavy traffic, high speeds, poor infrastructure and lack of enforcement make this area totally unsafe for those walking or cycling to school, work or sports clubs. We were deeply saddened but not surprised by the recent death of a cyclist at Camac Bridge, Dolphin’s Barn in November 2023, and we demand action before more lives are lost.

An urgent safety audit of the R110 is required along with an immediate upgrade of active travel infrastructure at Camac Bridge.

From May-Oct 2023, a Telraam counter on Lower Crumlin Road ( part of UCD WeCount Traffic Impact Data Project ) has recorded :                          during daylight hours only

  • 1.45 million cars, 460,000 heavy vehicles, 190,000 bikes, 43,000 pedestrians
  • 83 cars per hour travelling over 50kmph, of these 22cars travelling over 60 kmph and 9 cars per hour travelling over 70 kmph.
  • Crumlin Road is ranked 5th busiest location in Dublin for number of heavy vehicles per hour.

We the undersigned call on Dublin City Council, DCC Traffic Advisory Group, National Transport Authority, An Garda Síochána, Road Safety Authority, Transport Infrastructure Ireland, Minister for Transport and Local Representatives to work together, with increased urgency, to make this dangerous section of road safer for all before another person is killed.

We are advocating for urgent change and expect those responsible for road safety to :

  • IMPLEMENT life-saving changes here immediately.
  • PROTECT the most vulnerable users of this road.
  • ENFORCE the speed limits and traffic laws.
  • CONSULT with those engaged in active travel through Crumlin Road & Dolphin’s Barn.
  • MEASURE the amount of RTI's attended to by emergency services to build a true picture of their frequency and pattern.
  • SHARE potentially life-saving data with all stakeholders.
  • UPGRADE the Camac Bridge junction without further delay.
  • ENGINEER better cycling infrastructure to keep everyone safe.
  • DESIGN a safer, slower R110
  • CALM Crumlin Road

The R110 at Crumlin Road & Dolphin's Barn is not just a traffic corridor into Dublin city but also a place where people live, work, play and learn. Please sign this petition if you believe in creating a safer community for those in the vicinity of, and travelling through Crumlin Road and Dolphin's Barn.

Thank You!
