Calling upon action from the township for the recent burglaries in East Windsor Township

The Issue

As residents of this community, the recent increase in the number of burglary incidents make us feel unsafe and vulnerable, and we are disappointed at the lack of action on the part of the East Windsor Township and steps taken to address the issue.

We do understand that crime can happen anywhere, but the frequency and brazenness of these the recent burglaries and house break-ins on Klee court and Vangogh Drive recently are alarming and cause for major concern. What has compounded the situation is total lack of transparency on the part of Township Administration and information sharing on the crime in our area.

It was informed in the Police Neighborhood Watch on Dec 19th 2022, Township Police is understaffed and is not at the levels required as per Township ordinance. It was also communicated that understaffing is related to retirements and officers moving out to better opportunities. What contingency plans, the Township has put in place to tide over the current safety crisis? Does the Township have the option of seeking County or State help in the short term?

We are calling on the Township to:

1. Take immediate action (both interim and long term) to address this spurt in crime in general, more so burglaries and thefts. This could include

a. Increasing patrols in affected neighborhoods

b. Working with Local, County and State Law Enforcement to identify and apprehend the perpetrators

c. Installing cameras in public places

d. Providing more Street Lighting, etc.

2. Improve communication by providing frequent update on incidents and crime relevant statistics through

a. EWPD’s Facebook page

b. Nixle

We believe that it is the responsibility of the Township to ensure the safety and security of its residents, and we request that you take this matter seriously and take immediate steps to address it and communicate any updates to the residents.

Best regards
