There have been reports of rates increases of up to 80% for home owners, far above the average property valuation increases since the last evaluation.

The increase in the cost of living within the City of Johannesburg has exceeded annual inflation and / or natural property valuation increases. In addition, The City of Johannesburg has also increased the price of electricity and stopped the free 6 kiloliter water allocation. This hike in rates further adds to the financial strain and burden affecting residents around the City. 

We call on the Herman Mashaba - City Mayor, the Democratic Alliance and the officials at the City of Johannesburg Municipality to stop the increase, reconsider, reevaluate and minimize the rates increases across the municipality. This large increase is placing further financial strain and burden on the residents of the City, the same residents who voted them in.
